When we hire for new virtual assistants on onlinejobs.ph (our preferred marketplace for finding offshore talent), my team and I do the following:

1. We include a detail in our job description that if missed (i.e. if candidates don't include the word "watermelon" in their application), its an instant rejection ^_^'

2. Depending on the job, we'll include a request for a portfolio link, resume, etc. and if anything there is missing, its also an instant rejection.

3. We make it super clear to ONLY submit applications within the onlinejobs.ph portal, meaning if anyone of us get emailed, texted, or otherwise contacted through other means, we ignore that outreach (as stated in the job description).

Anyone who misses the first meeting with us is rejected, short of their communicating with us thoughtfully about how/why they need to reschedule.

Beyond such obvious filters, we've yet to add any more friction - depending on the hiring need, we'll reach out to applicants directly based on our search, and those folks in a sense have it easier.

While existing team members have recommended individuals from their network throughout our working relationship, I've frankly been hit/miss with said talent, and given their outreaching might mismatch my timing on when we need someone, I may unfortunately forget about them!

As an employer, I have a lot of empathy towards the ultimately limited time and resources a company wants to place around finding its next talent. At the same time, I wish would-be hires (who met the minimum criteria of what was asked of them) can be responded to accordingly - this is something my team and I have yet to master, but its on our list ^_^

WOW - I always assumed that Indeed and LinkedIn had some system that would bubble the "top candidates" to the front somehow. Ugh.

Thanks for a great video. Would love to see a comparison to for example Teamtailor.

BUT watching your video was quite hard, I had to spend like 20% of my cognitive load on trying to NOT look at the highlighted purple words in the sub-titles. I'm not even native english, still I would prefer to choose myself if I want subtitles or not
