I enjoyed reading this -- negative framing affects us everywhere! My Substack is all about positivity in sports card collecting, which is a hobby surrounded by negativity (Everyone pulls great cards but me; my great card got a less-than-great grade; this player is not playing well, hurting my collection's value; this company is ripping people off!, etc.) I love the idea that framing those stories in a different light can help improve our perception of the hobby as a whole. "My great card is still great -- the grade might not be, but the card is still great!" or "This hobby keeps me connected with my son/daughter -- which has an unknown value greater than anything else." -- Thanks again for this article.
I would love to see marketing hype built around an insurance company or employee benefits experience that utilizes this framing to acquire more business / talent, then using this teardown as a pre-retrospective ^_^
This is an interesting take. However, the insurance company is not using MyChart to bill your dad, John Muir Health, the healthcare company, is. Your thesis statement is that the insurance company is not emphasizing the positive effect of their work enough, but they would do that through an explanation of benefits (EOB).
